No Snow, Still A Go: Our Christmas Ride Is On!

by Up.Bike

We’re getting jolly this weekend. As we get ready for Christmas and New Year’s, we’re inviting everyone to join us for a bike ride on Sunday, December 23.

You’ll have to forgive us for hitting ‘refresh’ on our weather apps every ten minutes, but as of right now, we’re looking at a dirt ride at the Vasa Supply Road Singletrack. Originally, we were hoping to host this ride as a way to celebrate snow sports, from fat biking to skiing to snowshoeing. Unfortunately, we have seen some incredibly warm temperatures the past few days, and while that’s been great for riding frozen crust, it’s been a bit of a letdown for our ride plans.

Don’t worry, we’re doing this no matter what, but it’s not looking good to send folks out on skis. Instead, we’re asking that you ride your fat bike or mountain bike with us for a few hours on Sunday, December 23. We’ll have coffee and cookies tucked into the up.bike AdventureHub, where you’ll be able to check out out all our mounts, accessories, and gear! It’s a rare chance to see all this stuff in a real-world environment; you’ll even be able to hang up your bike if you want to have it safe and secure while you snack.

We’re joining up with our pals from Dirt Church, a weekly ride that shreds singletrack year-round right here in northern Michigan. The crew sees anywhere from a half dozen to more than fifty riders throughout the year, and while you’d think winter sees attendance dip, great grooming and over thirty miles of trail make fat bike services some of the most fun! We’ll have a few riders leading groups of different speeds, but you can also head out at your own pace on the immaculately well-marked Winter Sports Singletrack. The trail is maintained by Northern Michigan Mountain Bike Association, stewards of hundreds of miles of trail in the region, including the new Palmer Woods trail near Glen Arbor.

The first groups will take off from the Supply Road Parking Lot at 9 am, with plenty of people taking off throughout the morning. We’ll have coffee and cookies until noon, so stop back for a snack and head out for another loop! This is a great chance to meet more local riders, explore the trails, and check out the Pere Marquette Forest in between fall and winter, with the trails frozen and very fast!

For more details, make sure you’re following the event on Facebook. Let us know what mounts and tools you’d like to see in person, and we’ll be sure to bring a few special coupon codes, too.
