If you've been looking to see the full up.bike line-up of mounts and accessories live and in living color, you're in luck! This Saturday, May 5, we'll be celebrating Cinco de Mayo with 22 miles of mud, sun and snow in what promises to be a very unique edition of our local spring bike race.
As we've said before, winter has been interminable in Northern Michigan, and while we've been treated to wonderful weather as we ease into May, the long and cold April has left an awful lot of snow on the trails. Now, with less than a week until MSB, it's looking more and more assured that our traditional spring race will feel a bit nordic in 2018!
Mud, Sweat and Beers has been a staple in Traverse City for ten years now. The race is a fundraiser for the event's venue, Mt. Holiday. The small ski hill is a non-profit that offers families winter recreation on Traverse City's east side, and it's run largely on donations and the proceeds from this beloved race. The race offers 11 and 22 mile distances for athletes of all abilities, with a famously-fun finish down the ski hill and through the massive mud puddle just in front of the line.
This year, racers won't have to worry about getting a few specks of mud on their bike to show they were out there. With lots of snow still on the course, plenty of riders will be opting to ride their fat bikes, and there's no doubt everyone will be well drenched and mud-covered early on, with other layers added throughout the day.
