If you've followed up.bike for very long, you've almost certainly seen plenty of orange before. That orange is spreading, and that's something we're really happy to see.
Norte Youth Cycling has grown in leaps and bounds over the past few years, evolving from a few kids riding bikes to offering in-school balance bike programs, after school rides, bike valets, and weekly events for the whole family. They've gotten hundreds of kids off the couch and onto bikes, encouraging happy, healthy lifestyles from toddlers to adults.
Norte has called the Grand Traverse Civic Center home for almost two years now, but with so much growth, they're already looking for a bit more elbow room. The Bike Library, for starters, now offers over two dozen bikes, plus they maintain and store a constant flow of donated bikes. That many bikes adds up really fast, and so, the new Wheelhouse started in motion.
Norte worked with Grand Traverse County to renovate an historic building located on the north end of the Civic Center that will more than double their space. Those renovations came through generous donations from the community, and they've already done enough to ensure that the Wheelhouse will be ready for after-school activities this fall! Of course, we wanted to make sure their new digs weren't just spacious, but stylish, too.
We headed over to put up the first strips of Wall Rail this week, and we'll be bringing you more on the mounts and accessories we're contributing to the project. The big unveil will come this autumn as Norte kicks off their Grand Opening just in time for school.
