The Traverse City Trails Festival with up.bike

by up.bike

You may have noticed we’re really into supporting the trails. A big reason behind that passion is the quality of the riding we have in our hometown of Traverse City, Michigan. And the reason for those great trails is the people behind Northern Michigan Mountain Bike Association.

NMMBA has completely changed how, where, and who rides in our region. They’ve taken on an increased roll not just in building, maintaining, and protecting trails across Northern Michigan, but in growing our area’s mountain biking community through clinics, rides, and races. For the third year, they’re working with Short’s Brewing and Ranch Rudolf to put on the Traverse City Trails Festival on July 20.

The TCTF is one of the most unique events in the Midwest. It offers riders a way to explore trails how they want to, with both races and non-competitive tours. With 40 mile, 25, and 15 events on offer, there’s a fun, accessible distance and trail experience for any skill level, at any speed. It’s a perfect way to be more inclusive and encouraging to mountain bikers who simply want to get out, have fun, support NMMBA, and explore some incredible trails.

That’s the second unique thing about TCTF. Much of the 40 and 25 mile courses are on ‘unmarked’ trails which aren’t allowed to be signed 364 days of the year. The one day they are marked is the TCTF! The ride helps even experienced locals find new places to ride and new ways to connect trails they know with sections of singletrack they discover on race day. In addition, the race often relies on building short bypasses and connecting pieces of trail to link the old with the new, which produces even more places to ride!

We supported TCTF last summer, and we’re excited to be back as a sponsor in 2019. We’re bringing our famous Adventure Hub so you can see all our mounts and accessories, plus we’ll be the results board, so you can look up your finishing times and see where you stack up against other riders. Don’t be too surprised if we give away a few up.bike bells, hats, and beer coozies, either.

You can support NMMBA by signing up to race or tour the TCTF on July 20 here. Can’t make the race? Consider joining NMMBA and becoming a member. Even if you never pick up a shovel, you can support great trails and a place for our community to get outside, be active, and grow the sport.
